WWE EXTREME RULES RESULTS
Kofi Kingston def Sheamus (Tables Match: New United States Champion)
TAMPA: There's a
piece of wisdom that has been passed around the WWE locker room for years:
always brings your boots to the arena, because you never know when you're going
to have a match.
Tonight, that old adage paid off for Kofi Kingston in a big
way. Placed in an impromptu Tables Match against United States Champion Sheamus
by SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long, the high-flyer was ready for action
and proved it by smashing The Celtic Warrior through the hardwood to capture
the coveted title for a second time.
It wasn't just a great victory for Kingston, but a taste of retribution. After
beating Sheamus fair and square on Monday night, Kofi was brutalized by the
angry Irishman in a vicious attack on SmackDown. It was the kind of wicked assault
Sheamus has become known for: dirty, underhanded and ruthless.
But the rampaging Superstar couldn't cheat his way to
victory tonight: even in a match he selected himself. As the defending
champion, the Irish Superstar was given permission to choose the bout's
stipulation by Long. Immediately, The Celtic Warrior asked for a Tables Match,
which shouldn't have come as a surprise. After all, it's the type of contest
that brought Sheamus his first WWE Championship when he sent John Cena through
a table in December of 2009.
The luck of the Irish may have been on the big man's side on
that winter evening, but there was no four-leaf clover that could have saved
him from the frenzy of Kofi Kingston tonight. Aggressive from the opening bell,
the West African Superstar displayed a fervor that has been lacking in many of
his recent matches. Fighting back from the best shots Sheamus threw at him, Kingston put it all on the
line when he jumped off the top rope to put The Celtic Warrior through a table
on the arena floor. The maneuver may have been high-risk, but it resulted in high reward.
Now a member of Raw after the 2011 WWE Draft, Kofi Kingston will
bring the United States Title with him when he returns to the red brand on
Monday night. And if he displays the same intensity he displayed tonight, the
new champion will definitely make an impact.
Layla def Michelle McCool (Loser Leaves WWE Match)
TAMPA: Best friends have officially become foes. In
one of the biggest victories of her career, Layla has forced Michelle
McCool to leave WWE in an emotionally-charged Loser Leaves WWE Match.
But the former Flawless BFFs left Extreme Rules stunned after Kharma
leveled Michelle after the bell. After apologizing to the Divas
locker room and surprisingly receiving a wish of good luck from several
Divas, Layla turned her recent streak of losses around when the Diva Search winner had to fight to stay in WWE. In a No-Disqualification, No
Count-out Match, Michelle hit Layla with the Faithbreaker, but Layla
countered, pinning her former Team Flawless counterpart.
A bittersweet Layla left her one-time best friend shocked after her win,
and, just when it appeared Michelle would breakdown in tears alone in
the ring, the mysterious Kharma emerged. In an act of sheer strength and
wicked determination, Kharma quickly destroyed Michelle, leaving her
face-down on the mat after her final, fateful match in WWE. It was a
moment that left not only the Divas: but the WWE Universe: stunned. Before
their bestie break-up at Extreme Rules, Team Flawless had been
inseparable for more than a year, leaving an indelible mark in WWE
history. Layla was the final Diva to win the Women's Championship in May
2010, while Michelle unified the Divas Championship in September of the
same year. These beauties bullied and battled their way through the
Divas locker room, unashamed of their oftentimes cruel behavior, no
matter who they offended. But after a WrestleMania XXVII loss to a
team including Snooki of Jersey Shore fame, cracks began forming in
Lay-Cool's one-time flawless friendship. Layla suffered several losses
in singles action, causing a major rift with Michelle. The English-born
Diva insisted on couples therapy, but real-talking it out only made
matters worse. Michelle viciously attacked her former partner in Flawless after she lost on Raw.
Following an emotional match against each other which ended in a
double-count out, Layla offered a challenge to Michelle: A
No-Disqualification, No Count-out Match. Michelle agreed and boldly
added that the loser must leave WWE. Surely
Michelle never expected to fall to her former BFF at Extreme Rules, but
she certainly wouldn't have imagined being brutally attacked by Kharma.
With Michelle's departure from WWE, who will Kharma set her wicked
sights on next?
Michael Cole and Jack Swagger def Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler (Country Whipping Match)

Michael Cole and Jack Swagger def Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler (Country Whipping Match)
TAMPA: Michael Cole remains undefeated. And no, that's not a typo.
The 'rat bastard' of an announcer, along with his trainer Jack Swagger, faced off against fellow announcers Jerry 'The King' Lawler and Jim Ross in a Country Whipping Match. When the sawdust finally settled, it was Cole and Swagger who had prevailed and their WWE Hall of Fame opponents who would be forced to 'leather' the storm.
The barn-burner of a match, in which attacking your opponent with a leather strap is perfectly legal, can only be won by pinfall or submission. Nonetheless, during the bout, Cole suffered a series of welts, leaving his back looking like a road map of downtown Oklahoma City. Despite the lashing, however, Cole would get the last laugh. As Good Ol J.R. mixed it up with his fellow Oklahoman, the cheese-eating Cole snuck up on the Hall of Famer and rolled him up for the improbable win.
Ross and Lawler stood in the ring baffled at the implausible turn of events. For their part, The All-American American and his partner beamed as they strode up the entrance ramp relishing Cole's undefeated 'streak.'

Randy Orton def CM Punk (Last Man Standing Match)
TAMPA: Once again, CM Punk learned that Randy Orton's patented
RKO is perhaps one of the most unpredictable and devastating maneuvers in WWE
history. The WWE Universe watched in awe and thousands of flash bulbs
attempted to capture the astounding moment when The Viper took down CM Punk to
pick up another victory over the leader of The New Nexus. This instance was
different than the one inside the Georgia Dome at WrestleMania and on Raw the
following night, because after this unbelievable RKO, Orton truly was the last man standing at Extreme Rules.
In a Last Man Standing Match, anything goes, there are no
count outs and whichever Superstar does not answer the official's 10-count loses
the match. After many close calls and brutal action in and outside of the ring,
CM Punk was unable to get back to his feet before the count of 10.
Before their confrontation on The Grandest Stage of Them
All, Orton single-handedly and methodically took The New Nexus out of action
one at a time in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. This would ultimately
even the playing field by preventing them from coming to CM Punk's aid inside
the Georgia Dome. One month later, as CM Punk's music played inside Tampa's St. Pete Times
Forum, The New Nexus followed, ready to seek their own revenge on The Viper and
ensure Punk's victory. Facing insurmountable odds, Orton's salvation came in
the form of flickering lights and a familiar chime. Josh Mathews then delivered
bad news for The Straight Edge Superstar and Raw's Anonymous General Manager
wanted to ensure there would only be one last man standing and banned Punk's
horde from ringside mere moments before the opening bell.
CM Punk's furious reaction to this shocking announcement
spoke volumes as he no doubt counted on a healthy and present New Nexus to
ensure victory this time. With little time for The Second City Saint to
improvise and develop a new strategy, the official called for the bell and shy it
was almost as though it triggered venom to course through Orton's body, ready
to strike at his adversary.
While the battle in Tampa
was certainly tremendous and ruthless, the hatred between the two competitors
was enough motivation to keep them at each other's throats in the opening bout
of Extreme Rules. The arch-rivals gave each other everything they had both in
and out of the ring. Both competitors unleashed a flurry of punishment on each
other using kendo sticks, chairs, exposed turnbuckles and the steel steps at ringside
to try and attain victory. The Viper showed his resiliency throughout the
entire contest and finally, after unleashing a series of strikes with a kendo
stick, Orton climbed the top turnbuckle and nailed CM Punk with a huge RKO.
Unable to answer the official's 10-count, CM Punk would fall in defeat once
more to one of SmackDown's newest additions.
In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, as Orton dismantled
The New Nexus, CM Punk began to wage a much more psychological battle with WWE's
Apex Predator. A defining moment of Punk's reprehensible tactics came when he
taunted his opponent from Orton's tour bus, while his wife was inside. Punk
used the opportunity to attack Orton's knee, trying to gain an advantage at The
Show of Shows. However, Orton's resiliency, determination and unpredictability
was heavily underestimated by The Straight Edge Superstar, both at WrestleMania
and then again on Raw just 24 hours later.
The black-and-yellow adorned army even cost Orton an
opportunity to challenge for the WWE Title and while it seemed that The New
Nexus and their leader finally had the upper hand, The Viper once again
defeated CM Punk a week later. Finally, the Second City Saint had enough and
wanted to meet Orton in a Last Man Standing Match at Extreme Rules.
In what could be one of the most defining moments of his
career, Orton's jaw-dropping RKO would be enough to finally silence and keep CM Punk down for good in their most vicious encounter ever.

John Cena won a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match (New WWE Champion)
TAMPA: Once again, ladies and gentlemen, The Champ is here! Sending The Miz crashing to the canvas with an Attitude Adjustment from the top rope, John Cena overcame both The Awesome One and John Morrison in a career threatening Triple Threat Steel Cage Match at Extreme Rules.
Competing in an environment befitting his extensive parkour training, Morrison thrived inside the steel mesh, utilizing his unparalleled balance, incredible agility and fast-paced offense to catch both Cena and The Miz off-guard, most spectacularly with a high-risk Starship Pain off the top of the cage. However, The Monday Night Delight more than once found himself caught in the crossfire as The Cenation Commander-in-Chief and The Awesome One continued to vent their lingering aggression toward one another following their following their following their emotionally-charged WrestleMania encounter.
Members of Cenation inside Tampa's St. Pete Times Forum reveled in the aftermath of their hero's monumental tenth World Championship win, but if not for the unwelcome intervention of R-Truth, it would have likely been Morrison basking in the adulation of the WWE Universe at night's end. As The Shaman of Sexy made his way toward the cage door to escape its unforgiving confines and win the match, his former friend attacked, effectively costing Morrison his first-ever WWE Championship. With Morrison taken out of the picture, the veteran Cena capitalized by targeting the escaping Miz and attaining a pinfall victory.
As Truth stated earlier in the night, Morrison 'stole' his opportunity to battle for the WWE Championship in this bout with a crushing defeat on Raw weeks earlier that sent the rapping Superstar over the edge. By ambushing The Prince of Parkour moments before he exited the cage, the increasingly aggressive Truth nevertheless played a critical role in its outcome, leaving Morrison in a heap before defiantly climbing over the top of the cage.
When it comes to near-victories and outside interference, The Champ can certainly relate. At WrestleMania XXVII, Host Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson brought his rivalry with Cena to an entirely new level, hitting him with a Rock Bottom that afforded The Awesome One a key victory on The Grandest Stage of Them All. But with his WrestleMania XXVIII collision with The Great One in Miami still a year away, Cena was able to savor his winning moment at Extreme Rules as he held the WWE Championship high above his head for the first time since June 20, 2010, when he lost the title to Sheamus in a chaotic Fatal 4-Way Match.
Over the past several weeks, the typically cocky, most 'must-see' WWE Champion in history showed signs of trepidation given the unique nature of a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match. In such a contest, a winner can be crowned via pinfall, submission or by escaping the cage. As such, The Miz knew he could lose the WWE Title to either Cena or his former 'Dirt Sheet' co-host without being involved in the final decision. Ultimately, as he tried to escape through the top of the cage to retain his coveted title, The Awesome One fell to the very Superstar he claimed to 'own' in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania.
At Extreme Rules, Cena put an end to The Era of Awesome on its 159th day, but The Miz has never taken defeat graciously. Will The Awesome One find a way to retaliate against The Cenation Commander-in-Chief? Furthermore, will Morrison achieve a measure of retribution against his one-time ally, R-Truth? To find out, follow all of the action on Raw, Monday nights at 9/8 CT on USA.
Big Show, Kane def. Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson (WWE Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match)

Big Show, Kane def. Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson (WWE Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match)
TAMPA: Abraham Lincoln once said, 'A house divided against itself cannot stand.'
It's an insight the members of The Corre should take to heart. Plagued by infighting and a lack of direction in recent weeks, the band of renegades continued to fall apart at Extreme Rules as Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson failed to beat Big Show and Kane in a WWE Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match.
It was yet another disappointment for the squad of Barrett, Jackson, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. At WrestleMania XXVII, The Corre lost a huge Eight-Man Tag Team Match to Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Santino Marella. Weeks later, Slater and Gabriel dropped their tag titles to The World's Largest Athlete and The Big Red Monster. This string of failures has had the team members at odds, constantly bickering instead of working as a unit.
Tonight, Barrett and Jackson had the opportunity to put their group back on the right track. If they could take down two of the largest Superstars in WWE history, they'd prove that The Corre truly were the future of sports-entertainment. But even with Gabriel and Slater watching their backs, the duo couldn't stay on the same page.
Battling in a ring surrounded by WWE Superstars and NXT Rookies, Jackson looked impressive as he displayed his amazing strength by bodyslamming the 485-pound Big Show. But Barrett couldn't resist the opportunity to batter his rival and tagged himself in. It was a serious error in judgment. After a failed attempt to deliver the Wasteland to The World's Largest Athlete, the British Superstar was nailed with a chokeslam and pinned.
This loss is yet another embarrassing setback for The Corre. Will it be a wakeup call for the group to finally get things together? Or is the set headed for a brutal breakup? Check out SmackDown on Friday night to find out.

Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes (Falls Count Anywhere Match)
For most Superstars, winning is everything. But not for Cody Rhodes. Even with a victory over Rey Mysterio on The Grandest Stage of Them All, Rhodes is still not happy.
The disfigured Superstar has vowed not to rest until he does to Mysterio what he did to him.Rhodes' inner turmoil about his outward appearance all began on the Jan. 21 edition of SmackDown. That was the fateful night when Mysterio blasted Rhodes with a 619. But, because of an exposed leg brace, the maneuver proved even more damaging than ever.
The collision instantly broke Rhode's nose. In the week's following Rhode's WrestleMania victory, he grew more and more anxious to injure Mysterio. He went as far as bringing Mysterio's family into the mix by saying he wants his own children to be horrified at the sight of his face. That, Rhodes claims, is the only way he will feel vindicated. Just nine days before Extreme Rules, tensions flared even further as the two battled it out among the SmackDown crowd in London, England.
In the unpredictable environment of a Falls Count Anywhere Match, can the self-conscious and bitter Rhodes follow through on his desire to disfigure Mysterio? Or, will The Master of the 619 drive Rhodes deeper into despair by delivering yet another loss on the pay-per-view stage?Catch Extreme Rules live on Sunday, May 1 at 8 ET / 5 PT, only on pay-per-view.
